Have you seen the Great Wall of India?  Yes, it exists in Rajasthan! The #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite, located near #Udaipur, is a fort called #Kumbhalgarh. The spectacular structure is known for its long wall on the #AravalliHills. It is the second largest fort complex in India, right after Chittor Fort. Built by Rana Kumbha, the Mewar Kingdom ruler back in the 15th century, the beautiful fort sits 1100 m above sea level. It is now open to the public, so you can visit this wonderful place. The fort is 3600 ft tall, and 38 km long covering a vast area. An interesting fact about the fort is that it has some 360 temples, most of which are said to be Jain temples. You will also find step-wells, palaces, gardens, and 700 cannon bunkers. Coming to the wall, it runs for 36 km, and is said to be the second longest continuous wall in the world, right after the Great Wall of China. The massive wall meanders through the hilly landscape, and is a spectacular sight from the fort. A wonderful place for some photography. The fort was one of the main bastions of hope for rulers of the region during times of danger. It was, however, breached once during its lifetime. Some parts of the wall are quite wide, so much so that eight horses can ride through. The fort consists of a famous Ganesh Temple that you can visit, and it is considered to be one of the earliest temples. Also, there is a Shiva Temple called Neel Kanth Mahadeva Temple, which was built in 1458 CE. #RatneshwarTemple is indeed one of the most miraculous and mysterious temples the land of ancient city called #Varanasi has. With every passing day arch science seems to develop, yet what remains mysterious to this day is how something so strong was carved back then in 19th century and created even prior to that in the imagination of the Indian artisans! While the world has such unique slanted wonders too, India has its own uniqueness in the form of this Kashi Karvat temple. It was erected with knowledge and held strong by devotee's devotion even after years of climatic changes. Also, it never fails to amaze its visitors with its architectural design showing up with a nagara shikhara (tip of the temple) and phamsana mandap (pillared hall). A sigh of exhilaration and curiosity envelops the crowd that witnesses it's central hall where worships are offered. The most surprising part about it is that it's deep sunk in water throughout the year except for some days when sun surrounds the region yet worship is offered on all these times. Repost from @kvinod22 Here I am sharing my article with you that how #monuments are affected from air pollution. One of the most priceless parts of India’s ancient history, the #AshokaPillar is in grave danger of deterioration. Situated in the heart of the capital city of #Delhi, this important piece of #Buddhist relic is showing signs of decay. This has come as shock not only to the conservationists but to ordinary Indians as well for whom the pillar is a mix of grandeur, valor, peace, compassion and above all mystery. Mystery because Ashoka pillars have stood the test of times whether it was climate, conquerors or marauders. They have been there since 273 BC without fail. Kings have come and gone, powers have changed but the pillars have withered all kinds of storms withholding story which none has been able to decipher and challenge. But now all this is set for a tragic and unfortunate change if measures are not taken up fast. The pillar seems to be giving in to the test of times finally. Cracks have developed and a large part of inscriptions have flaked off. The damage seems to be done and reasons are at the moment not known maybe air pollution. This pillar is one of a series of pillars erected by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka between 273 and 236 BC. These pillars are inscribed with edicts of the great king Ashoka. Originally there may have been hundreds erected all over in the subcontinent but only 19 survived. Each pillar weighs up to 50 tons and rises to a height of 12 to 15 meters (40 to 50 feet). All the pillars were built at Buddhist monasteries. Many of these carried inscriptions addressed to the monks and some were erected to commemorate visits of Ashoka. Two Chinese medieval pilgrims Faxian and Xuanzang recorded 21 of them of which only five can be identified with the existing pillars. One of the few surviving Ashokan pillars is this particular pillar located in central Delhi’s #FerozeshahKotla area.

The #13KannaraBridge or #13ArchBridge (#PathimoonuKannaraBridge) is a 108-year-old bridge from the British era consisting of 13 arches. It is a major landmark on the #Kollam #Sengottai railway line. The bridge connects two hillocks and stands on thirteen granite pillars each almost a hundred feet tall. The bridge is sandwiched by the Kollam-Thirumangalam National Highway on one side and the River Kazhuthurutti on the other. The #Bridge was built by the British in 1904 to transport goods from Kollam (#Quilon) to #Madras and is part of one of India’s oldest mountain rail lines. The bridge was constructed with just rocks, limestone and jaggery (in the Surki method). This rail route was once one of the major routes that connect Kollam (Quilon) with Chennai for the trading of crops and spices. The rail journey through this rail line is still one of the most scenic because of its route through dense forest, long tunnels, with many steeps, and downs. The meter gauge that was originally in place is now replaced by a broad gauge railway in order to accommodate newer, standard locomotives. #BhajaCaves is a group of 22 rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC located in the city of #Pune, India. The caves are 400 feet above the village of #Bhaja, on an important ancient trade route running from the #ArabianSea eastward into the #DeccanPlateau (the division between North India and South India). The inscriptions and the cave temple are protected as a #Monument of National Importance, by the Archaeological Survey of India per Notification No. 2407-A. It belongs to the Hinayana #Buddhism sect in #Maharashtra. The caves have a number of stupas, one of their significant features. The most prominent excavation is its chaitya (or chaityagrha - Cave XII), a good example of the early development of this form from wooden architecture, with a vaulted horseshoe ceiling. Its vihara (Cave XVIII) has a pillared verandah in front and is adorned with unique reliefs. These caves are notable for their indications of the awareness of wooden architecture. The carvings prove that tabla – a percussion instrument – was used in India for at least 2300 years, disproving the centuries-held belief that the tabla was introduced to India by outsiders or from Turko-Arab. The carving shows a woman playing tabla and another woman, performing dance. Amazing click by @garysequeira_

#BekalFort was built by Shivappa Nayaka of Keladi in 1650 AD, at Bekal. It is the largest fort in #Kerala, spreading over 40 acres. The fort appears to emerge from the sea. Almost three-quarters of its exterior is in contact with water. Bekal fort was not an administrative centre and does not include any palaces or mansions. An important feature is the water-tank, magazine and the flight of steps leading to an observation tower built by Tipu Sultan. Standing at the centre of the fort, this offers views of the coastline and the towns of Kanhangad, Pallikkara, Bekal, Mavval, Kottikkulam, and Uduma. The fort's zigzag entrance and surrounding trenches reveal its defensive strategy. Holes on the outer walls are designed to defend the fort effectively from naval attacks. The upper holes meant for aiming at the farthest targets; lower holes below for striking as enemy nearer and the lowest holes to attacking enemy closest to the fort. Its solid construction resembles the Thalassery Fort and the St. Angelo Fort at Kannur built by the Dutch .

Main entrance of the #NeemranaFort, whIch is part of the original structure and preserved as it is . The Fort Palace of #Neemrana is about 125 km from Delhi, on the road to Jaipur in #Rajasthan. Built in 1464, #NeemranaFortPalace became the third capital of the descendants of Prithviraj Chauhan III , who had fled Delhi in 1192 after he was vanquished in battle by Muhammad Ghori.  Neemrana’s rulers, proud of lineage, continued to assert themselves, even under the British, as their kingdom suffered. In 1947, Raja Rajinder Singh of Neemrana moved down to Vijay Bagh and the Fort Palace crumbled as its ramparts began to give way. For forty years he tried to rid himself of his liability but there were no takers. In 1986 the ruins were acquired for restoration and by 1991 the fort Palace was resplendent and majestic once again. The restoration has not tampered or altered any original design feature, not even Windows and doors. Lord Vaman is one of the 24 Avatars of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu reincarnated as Lord Vaman-ji to help his devotees. Each of the four main avatars came to destroy demon kings who gained immense powers. These avatars are: Lord Ram avatar – he came to destroy the evil of Rawan Lord Krishna avatar - he came to destroy Kansa Lord Narsingh avatar - he came to destroy Hiranyakshipu Lord Vaman avatar - he came to stop Raja Bali Raja Bali, the grandson of the great Bhakt Prahlad, had amassed great powers through completing 99 of 100 Ashwamegh Yagnas that gave him three indestructible weapons and powers greater than some of the Gods. It was while Raja Bali was enacting the 100th yagna, that Lord Indra went to his mother to tell her of his concerns that Raja Bali would overtake him in power if he completed this final yagna. To help protect the Gods including her son, Aditi, Lord Indra’s mother undertook a 12 day vrat called Payovrat which earnt her a boon to fix her problem. As a result of this boon Aditi gave birth to the 5th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Vaman. Lord Vaman-ji was born on12th day of Ashadra month - the day after deoshani ekadasi - when it is believed Lord Vishnu goes into Isolation for four months. Lord Vaman-ji who appeared in a tiny child like form as a priest, approached the powerful Raja Bali as he was distributing land to the demons, and asked him to allocate just a little land for the Devas. Lord Vaman-ji asked for the amount of land equal to just three of his strides. Raja Bali thought all this to be very humorous as Lord Vaman-ji appeared to be among the smallest of men, and three strides worth of land could surely cause no loss to the demon king. Shukracharya, the guru of the devas, warned the self-assured Raja Bali that he was dealing with the Lord himself , who would take everything back from him, but Raja Bali would not listen, and in fact was cursed by Shukracharya for this. At the agreement of the deal between Lord Vaman-ji and Raja Bali, Lord Vaman-ji turned into a giant form bigger than all the worlds and with his first step he took the whole of the Earth. #KedarnathTemple is a Hindu temple (shrine) dedicated to #Shiva. Located on the #Garhwal #HimalayanRange near the #MandakiniRiver, #Kedarnath is located in the state of #Uttarakhand, India. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open to the general public only between the months of April (Akshaya Tritiya) and November (Kartik Purnima, the autumn full moon). During the winters, the vigraha (deity) from Kedarnath temple is carried down to Ukhimath and where the deity is worshiped for the next six months. The very beautiful and fascinating #KandrourBridge is 8 kilometers from #Bilaspur on National Highway No-88. It is across the river Satluj. Its construction was started in April,1959 and was completed in 1965. The span of the bridge is about 280 meters with a breadth of about seven meters and the height above the lowest river bed below is about 80 meters, making it one of the highest bridge in the world. It is ranked first in Asia for its height. It has provided a link between Bilaspur, Ghumarwin and Hamirpur district, and is a marvelous engineering feat. The pillars supporting the bridge are hollowed. Amazing click by @anuragbhatoa 🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 👉🏻 Double Tap if you Like 💓 👉🏻 👉🏻 Do Tag your Friends in it. 💓💓 . . A BEAUTY SPOT IN THE HEAVEN ON EARTH ~ A turquoise blue boomerang shaped clean water lake on the #MalanaGlacier, #HimachalPradesh. During May 2019 we had explored a new route connecting #Jagatsukh with #ToshVillage, via Deotibba Base Camp, climbing Deoangan Col (5281 m), crossing Malana Glacier and finally crossing Animal Pass (4760 m), during our DEVANGAN EXPLORATION, MAY 2019. There was no trace of water in this completely snow covered route, and suddenly while crossing Malana Glacier, we could find this lake, semi frozen. Had the opportunity to quench our thirst for the day, and moved on to climb towards Animal Pass on the left side. And in front is seen Ali Ratni Tibba peak and the next left gully opens up as Tosh Pass, to Tosh village. This exploration was an unique one, as, there is no records of the connection of this route even with Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi. Situated in the #Chittoor district of #AndhraPradesh, #Tirupati is known for #LordVenkateshwaraTemple, one of the most visited pilgrimage centres in the country. #Tirumala is one of the #SevenHills in Tirupati, where the main temple is located. The temple is believed to be placed where #LordVenkateshwara took the form of an idol and is hence home to the diety Govinda. Tirupati is one of the oldest cities of India and finds mention in plenty of ancient Vedas and Puranas. The non-stop chanting of ‘Om Namo Venkatesaya’, the mad pilgrim rush and the 8-feet tall idol of Lord Venkateshwara – everything about the Sri Venkateshwara Temple is majestic.
