The Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church is the first established Christian church in Meghalaya, long back in the year 1846. The first church building was built upon a hillock of the present Cemetery by The Presbyterian Church of Wales who had sent Rev. Thomas Jones-I and his young wife Anne. Upon landing, the Rev. devoted his time listening attentively the pronunciation of the Khasi words and learnt the language. One British official had advised Jones as "go back home Jones; you may as well try to instruct the monkeys on that tree than to attempt to teach these people" It is said that only in 7/8 months he could converse with people and preached the Gospel. He also them Roman alphabets, translated a Welsh book into khasi and uplifted their way of life. His wife Anne is buried in this cemetary. #TheMonsoonPalace, also known as the #SajjanGarhPalace, is a hilltop palatial residence in the city of #Udaipur, #Rajasthan in India, overlooking the #FatehSagarLake. It is named #Sajjangarh after Maharana Sajjan Singh (1874–1884) of the Mewar Dynasty, who it was built for in 1884. The palace offers a panoramic view of the city's lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. It was built chiefly to watch the monsoon clouds; hence, appropriately, it is popularly known as #MonsoonPalace. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home, Chittorgarh. Previously owned by the Mewar royal family, it is now under the control of the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan and has recently been opened to the public. The palace provides a beautiful view of the sunset. Amazing click 📷 by 👉 @meinbhiphotographer 👈 #Follow 🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 . 👉🏻 Double Tap if you Like 💓💓 👉🏻 👉🏻 Do Tag your Friends in it. 🔖🏷️ . #MayuranathaswamyTemple, #Mayiladuthurai or #MayuranatharTemple is a #HinduTemple in the town of #Mayiladuthurai (formerly known as #Mayavaram or #Mayuram) in #TamilNadu, India. The temple is dedicated to #LordMayuranathaswamy, a form of Shiva, and has given its name to the town itself. The main icon is a lingam and the presiding deity is called #Mayuranathar because the Hindu goddess Parvathi worshipped Shiva here in the form of a mayura. On the day of the new moon in the Tamil month of Aippasi (November–December), religious Hindus have a ceremonial bath in the temple tank as it is believed to purify them from sins. An annual dance festival called the #MayuraNatyanjaliFestival is celebrated within the precincts of the temple each year.

The #ShoreTemple is the icon of the ancient monuments of #Mahabalipuram. The temple gets its name from its location on the Coromandel shore overseeing the Bay of Bengal. The sculptural excellence symbolizes the heights of Pallava architecture. The Dravidian style of architecture dates back to the 7-8th century. It was built under the rule of King Narsimha Varma. The visual delight of finest architecture, the sculptures and intricate and full of vivacity. The granite rock cut carvings are proof of the sheer brilliance of the artisans who have created this magnificent structure. The structural designs can be only called ‘poetry in stone’. It has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Erected on a 50 feet square platform, the temple is a pyramidal structure rising to the heights of 60 feet. The characteristic specimen of Dravidian temple architecture, Shore Temple is one of the oldest structural stone temples of South India. The temple basks in the glow of the first rays of the rising sun and spotlights the waters after sunset. #TheShoreTemple has three shrines, devoted to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The main temple is a five-storeyed structure sculpted out of granite dedicated to Lord Shiva. The pyramidal structure is 60 feet (18 m) high and sits on a 50 feet (15 m) square platform. In the Garbha Griha, sanctum sanctorum, a Shivalinga is worshipped. At the rear end, there are two shrines facing each other. One shrine is dedicated to Ksatriyasimnesvara and the other to Lord Vishnu. In the shrine, Lord Vishnu is seen reclining on the 'Seshanag', which is a symbol of consciousness in Hinduism. The temples both interiors and exteriors are elaborately carved and sculptured. The images on the sculpted panels illustrate scenes from everyday life in an incredibly real and artistic style. The reliefs of Nandi bull is magnificent and worth checking out. The archeological department has excavated certain other figures from the site.

We have heard the term 'Barowari Durga Puja' a lot. But what is Barowari? This term originated in Guptipara, a town located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, when a few friends were not allowed to take part in a household Durga Puja. In the 18th century, Durga Puja was primarily celebrated by the zamindars and other rich families in and around Calcutta. So when these group of people weren't allowed in the Durga Puja held by the Sen Bari, they formed the first publicly organized community Durga Puja which came to be known as Barowari meaning twelve friends (Baro = 12, Yaari = Friends). Seen in this picture is one of the Vaishnavaite Temples of Guptipara which is one of the main attractions of the place.
