Located near the shores of #Kanyakumari, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial was built in the honour of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation. Also known as Gandhi Mandapam, it is an important part for every Kanyakumari tour, presenting a glimpse into the historical richness of India and into life of the great man that India had seen. #MahatmaGandhi has visited Kanyakumari twice, in the year of 1925 and then in 1937. After his demise in 1948, his ashes were kept in 12 different urns so as to transfer them to different parts of the country. One of these urns was brought to Kanyakumari. Before immersions, it was kept at the spot where the memorial is built now for public so that they can pay their last homage to one of the greatest sons of India. Later the ashes were immersed in the sea waters at Kanyakumari. Later #MahatmaGandhiMemorial or #GandhiMandapam was built at the same place. Amazing click by @noor.photography_official

Incredible View of Jagannath Temple #Puri Jagannath Swami Nayana Pathagami Bhawatume . The Peace ☮️ I can feel Looking at this Picture is priceless 😍 Imagine on a fresh morning looking at the flags and enjoying the birds singing and the cool breeze playing with the hair.❤️ Jay Jagannath 🙏 The metal wheel at the top of Lord #JagannathTemple is known as Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel). The wheel is made of eight metals comprising of iron, copper, zinc, mercury, lead, brass, silver and gold. It's circumferance is about 36 feet and it is so designed that there is a wheel within the wheel. The circumferance of the inner wheel is about 26 feet. Eight hubs join together the inner and the outer wheels. There are decorative designs on the outer wheel. The thickness of the Neela Chakra is 2 inches. The wheel is said to be Lord Vishnu's most powerful weapon, Sudarshana Chakra (disk). Inside Lord Jagannath temple, Lord Vishnu's wheel is also worshipped in the name of 'Sudarshana'. But inside the temple Sudarshana is not in the shape of a wheel, but in the shape of a small wood pillar placed to the left of image of Lord Jagannath. It is believed that the same Sudarshana is also at the top of the temple and is known by the name of Neela Chakra. There is a specific category of people among the temple sevayats to serve the Neela Chakra and they are known as Garuda Sevaka or Chunara Nejoga. The pilgrims hold these sevayats in high esteem because every day at Sunset the Garuda Sevakas climb to the top of 214 feet high temple to fasten flags , offered by the devotees, on the bamboo mast attached to the Neela Chakra. The pole attached to the Neela Chakra is 38 feet long. After covering the breadth of the Neela Chakra, this pole extends 25 feet high above it. There was once a Sultan by the name of Mohammad bin Tughlaq who ruled the Delhi Sultanate for almost 25 years and is particularly famous for his follies. He built the 4th capital Jahanpanah, while wanting to consolidate all that had previously existed. He wanted to build this great wall which joined Mehrauli, Siri and Tughlaqabad, with Jahanpanah. This was the dream of his new capital. To fund the same, he imposed new tax laws which burdened the economy. People had to do multiple jobs to pay taxes and fend for themselves. Delhi, famous for its craftsmanship, began to lose the intricacy of its ingenious art because of the burden on the karigars. Trade hence started to decline. The Sultan, then introduced demonetization wherein silver coins were replaced with copper ones, an unsustainable decision that destroyed the economy even more. He then introduced new farm laws on the fertile Indo Ganges plains, which burdened the agricultural ecosystem so much that it led to famines and droughts. This was the time when Ibn Batuta was in Delhi and had been appointed as the royal mufti, inspite of having no formal qualifications for the same, just on the basis of his having completed the Hajj. Finally, his most drastic decision was to shift the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad, a migration which took so many lives that Daulatabad was converted into a huge graveyard. Subsequently a deadly epidemic also broke out, killing many. In the midst of this, the Sultan restored the capital to Delhi. The return journey was the last leg of devastation, which further spread the epidemic, claiming more lives. At the end of all this, when the Sultan looked at Delhi from the terrace of his Fort, he could see a desolate land, stretching across what was once as prosperous a city as Baghdad and Samarkand. Today, when I look at our current scenario and the ongoing activities such as the Central Vista project, GST, demonetization, revised farm laws, and finally the handling of the pandemic, I wonder whether history is repeating itself or is it just my misapprehension!
