The largest city in the state of #Punjab, #Ludhiana boasts of housing one of the most popular places to see in the state – Maharaja Ranjit Singh War #Museum. Spreading across four acres in area, this museum came into existence in the year 1999. The Punjab Government constructed the museum as a gesture of tribute to the courageous soldiers who struggled and laid their lives during various wars and battles that have been fought so far. Keeping up the museum with the International standards was the prime focus of the Government of Punjab. Located on the GT Road in Ludhiana, #MaharajaRanjitSinghWarMuseum not only pays homage to the soldiers but also educates the citizens of India about the role of defense. A majestic statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh sitting proudly on a throne welcomes you as you enter the museum. It has 12 galleries with exhibits of different divisions like the Ancient History Gallery, Post Independence History Gallery, War Hero?s Gallery, Air Force and Navy Gallery etc. The main hall displays pictures of the various Chakra winners, Chief Marshals, Generals and Admirals of Punjab. Two glorious lawns exhibit trophies of the Navy, Army and Air Force. A major attraction of this museum is the light and sound show which narrates the story of war of independence and the role of the gallant soldiers of Punjab in it. The show also creates a sense of nationalism among the people. You can also have a look at the number of battle tanks, Anti-aircraft guns, an old Sukhoi and an INS Vikrant model placed around the museum for the visitors to see. The Government of Punjab has been spending a good amount of money for the maintenance of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum to immortalize the memories of independence. This conscientious effort definitely calls for a visit to this honorable museum.

AKBAR'S TOMB, SIKANDRA, AGRA Built-in 1605-1613 by Akbar's son Jahangir and is situated in Sikandra, #Agra, #UttarPradesh, India. Akbar himself commenced the construction of this tomb, according to Tartary tradition, which stated to commence the construction of one's tomb during one's lifetime. The South gate of this tomb is the largest with four white marble chhatri-topped minarets, similar to those of the Taj Mahal. The buildings are constructed mainly from deep red sandstone. An inscription on the mausoleum reads: These are the Gardens of Eden: enter them to dwell eternally! While the entire tomb was constructed and Akbar lived through it, Jahangir constructed a floor of marble stone over the structure. Thus, he completed the structure of his Emperor father's tomb. After his death Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613. It cost 1,500,000 rupees to build and took 3 or 4 years to complete. During the reign of Aurangzeb, Jats rose in rebellion under the leadership of Raja Ram Jat. Mughal prestige suffered a blow when Jats ransacked Akbar's tomb, plundering and looting the gold, jewels, silver and carpets. The grave was opened and the late king's bones were burned. As Viceroy of India, George Curzon directed extensive repairs and restoration of Akbar's mausoleum, which were completed in 1905. Curzon discussed the restoration of the mausoleum and other historical buildings in Agra in connection with the passage of the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act in 1904 when he described the project as "an offering of reverence to the past and a gift of recovered beauty to the future". Church of St. Augustine is a ruined church complex located in #OldGoa. The church was completed in 1602 and is part of the #WorldHeritageSite, #Churches and convents of #Goa. The #church was built on top of the Monte Santo (Holy Hill), between 1597 and 1602 by Augustinian friars who landed in Goa in 1587. The church was considered one of the three great Augustinian churches in the Iberian world along with El Escorial and the Monastery of SΓ£o Vicente de Fora. The church was abandoned in 1835 after the Portuguese government of Goa began evicting many religious orders in Goa under its new repressive policies. The subsequent neglect caused the vault of the church to collapse in 1842. The body collapsed soon after and by 1871, the bell was moved from the tower to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Panjim, where it remains to date. In 1931, the facade of the church and half the tower collapsed and by 1938, most of the other parts had also collapsed. Currently only half the tower remains, and it is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Goa. The ruins were featured in the song Gumnaam Hai Koi from the 1965 suspense thriller movie Gumnaam and 'Saathiya' from the Bollywood hit Singham.
