The largest and grandest of all the temples in #Pattadakal is the Virupaksha Temple. It was originally called Lokeshwara Temple, after the name of its patron, Queen Lokmahadevi. The temple was built by the Queen to commemorate the victory of her husband, Chalukya Vikramaditya II, for his win against the Pallavas. This temple is one of the outstanding specimens of Chalukyan architecture. In terms of scale, building design, constructional techniques as well as range and quality of sculptural images, Virupaksha Temple is awe-inspiring.
